Lining White Summer Shorts

I was asked to line a pair of white, linen look shorts to make them more wearable.

They were quite a smart style, with front pleats, slant pockets, front fly and fixed waistband, so the lining had to fit around the fly, allow room for the pockets and fit within the selvedge of the waistband.

Using the original shorts lade out on pattern paper I cut a template to cut the linings. The lining material was a white soft cotton, for breathability, which had 2% elastane (something I had purchased for my stock from Amy Threads deadstock range.

After cutting, assembling and checking the fit I was able to attache with the biased edge of the waistband, then hand finish around the fly and crotch to ensure they stayed together when worn.

Probably one of the most pleasing stages to sewing and alterations is when you flip a garment inside out and cannot tell what has been done.
